Fuel Switching HEAR Projects: Submission Deadline
On May 29, 2026, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued updated program guidance for the Home Energy Rebates initiative, which includes changes that will impact Georgia’s program implementation.
DOE’s updated guidance (see Program Notice 26-2) must be implemented by August 31, 2026.
To meet this requirement, fuel switching HEAR scopes of work submitted online by 10:00 am ET on August 10, 2026. Resident applicant (homeowner) profiles associated with each fuel-switching projects must also be submitted by this deadline.
After this date, fuel switching projects will no longer be accepted, and only electric-to–higher-efficiency electric upgrades will be eligible.
Contractor Action Required: Contractors should prioritize submission of fuel switching projects and work toward complete applications to avoid delays. Additional details will be shared during Contractor Office Hours on July 15.
Applicant Action Required: If you are working with contractor on a HEAR fuel-switching project or if you are applying for a DIY rebate that involves fuel switching, make sure everything is submitted for review before the August 10, 2026 deadline. Also, closely monitor your e-mail inbox so you can promptly reply to the review team's request(s) for more information (if needed).
